“Facing My Reality” is second part of this piece. My older sister told me of an event that took our breath away as little girls. My mother chose to have our neighbor who was a pastor marry her and her new love. The pastor married them in his home which was about 8 feet away from our house. As unwilling witnesses our small hands hanging on the chain linked fence, me and my two older sisters watched them get married and later drove away in their car marked “just married”. This box exposes my reality. Seeing my mother with her new family meant there was no chance of her returning to our home. I felt betrayed, jealous and sadness. And so, I repeated to my self, I am strong, I am healthy, and I am not afraid.
